• Take a Look at My Recent Beauty Favorites!

    Happy February, Fam!

I can’t believe the first month of the new year has already come and gone! Doesn’t January 1st feel like just yesterday?

Today, I’ll be sharing some of beauty favorites from the past month—everything from hair to skincare goodies. Let’s get started!

    AMIKA POLISHED PERFECTION STRAIGHTENING BRUSH

Straightening brushes have been “in trend” for quite a while now so I decided to one a whirl. Let me tell you, this one by Amika is a total lifesaver! This brush is easy to use and really helps me achieve that straight sleek look that I want! If you constantly wake up with hair strands pointing in weird directions, this tool will help tame all the stray flyaways! Plus, it gets the job done way quicker than your average hair straightener!

    KOPARI COCONUT SKINCARE SYSTEM

A lover of all coconut-flavored delicacies, I figured why not give the ingredient a try on my body as well?

Coconut oil is great for everything, right?

I’ve been a fan of Kopari’s coconut body products (Body Oil, Body Milk, and Coconut Crush Scrub) for quite some time so I was super excited to learn that they came out with a four-product skincare line. Aesthetically speaking, their pink ombre packing is informative—you use the products in order from light pink to dark pink. The line itself includes a Coconut Cleansing Oil, Coconut Rose Toner, Coconut Face Cream, and a Coconut Lip Love lip balm. All of these products are super hydrating, which is perfect for this cold winter.

MURAD CITY SKIN OVERNIGHT DETOX MOISTURIZER

I’ve been using Murad’s City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer in the evening, especially on sick nights. When I’m sick, my skin tends to get really dry (to the point of flaking), mainly because I’m constantly creating friction when blowing my nose. This overnight moisturizer “heals” my skin when I’m sleeping. I ALWAYS wake up with super soft skin whenever I use it.

NARS PRIMER TRIOSOFT MATTE COMPLETE CONCEALER

I’ve been using NARS’ Smooth & Protect Primer after moisturizing and pairing it with the new Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Macadamia to create my simple everyday look. If you love NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer (I can’t imagine anyone hating this product), I recommend checking out the new Soft Matte Complete Concealer as well—especially if you’re a matte-finish type of gal!

PHILOSOPHY – BODY MOUSSE & DRY SHAMPOO

*Gasp!* When browsing through Sephora’s website the other week, I knew I needed to get my hands on these new launches. Philosophy came out with Body Mousses and Dry Shampoos in both Pure Grace and Amazing Grace scents. Pure Grace is on the cleaner side while Amazing Grace leans on the more floral end (my favorite)! The Body Mousse has a cool and fizzy sensation upon application. I really think it adds a fun element when moisturizing the body! All in all, the Dry Shampoo is my hands-down favorite beauty product for the start of 2017. Not only do both scents smell exactly like the perfume, but they also work really well!

If you have any new beauty favorites you would like to see me try, let me know in the comments down below!

  • Why Organic Skincare is Good for Your Skin ...and Your Soul

The skin is our largest organ and in order for it to function at its best, we must feed it with truly wholesome ingredients. My philosophy: If I refuse to put something in my body, I don’t want to put it on my body either.” —Rachel Winard, Soapwalla Chef.

I don’t know about you, but that statement hit home for me. That being said, I indulged in a #TreatYourself moment where I decided to feed my skin with wholesome ingredients. Organic skincare lines smell and feel so natural. I can tell that a whole lot of heart and love went into creating these skincare gems. After testing them out, I can honestly say that I feel better about my skin when slathering it with organic ingredients.

Here are three organic skincare brands I definitely recommend:

    FIG + YARROW

Fig + Yarrow has the most unique and interesting line up of products. Handcrafted and organic, they’ll give your skin much pleasure. I’m a fan of multi-tasking products like their Hair + Scalp Tonic which acts as a deep-conditioning treatment, moisture enhancement, smoothing serum, and aftershave oil. Their Complexion Water is great for hydrating  and soothing dry skin. It also acts as a light fragrance for both your hair and your body. Their Clay Masks are great for combining. I love using the Rose one for just the cheeks when they’re feeling a little dehydrated!

    MEOW MEOW TWEET

I love cats, which translates to me loving this brand. I first heard about the brand through YouTuber, Ingrid Nilsen. She was raving about Meow Meow Tweet’s Deodorant Cream. I remember trying their Deodorant Cream exactly a year ago—it was quite the experience—my pits smelled very botanical. I’m glad they finally came out with a Stick version because it’s obviously more convenient! Their deodorants are made for the most sensitive pits ever, rest assured you’ll never suffer from irritation. And of course, ya girl needs to buy Lip Balm from everywhere. This will be right up your alley if you’re vegan!

    SOAPWALLA

Soapwalla started in a Brooklyn kitchen (high five, New York City!), and has since made its way around the world. When looking for a skincare brand, trust is important. I mean, skincare really makes or breaks the skin, amirite? Well, Soapwalla knows how to build a trustworthy relationship. The company cares for both yours and our planet’s respective well-beings. Their Citrus Deodorant Cream, Restorative Face Serum, and The Spray, are among some of my favorite products. I mean, the Spray…who wouldn’t want a magical spray that does it all? Literally a hand sanitize, refresher for clothing and shoes, and insect repellent all in one! Love!

What are your thoughts about going organic?

  • What’s In My Bag?

Here is my beloved Strathberry Midi Tote bag.

I came across the bag on Instagram and instantly fell in love with its structure, handle, and overall look. Instead of traditional zippers and flaps, the Strathberry has a gold bar closure that simply “locks” the bag’s handles together. Super stylish, it has complemented a ton of my everyday looks. I’ve received a lot of compliments while using it too!

Keep on reading for the contents inside!

Let’s start off with what I consider my necessities—phone, earphones, wallet and water bottle. I never leave my house without my small 9 oz Swell bottle (because it fits most of my bags and is a eye-catcher every time I drink my water), my wallet and iPhone (I mean just look at my cute peacock phone case from Rifle Paper Co) and my Master & Dynamic earphones (they make my daily commutes to and from work a lot more bearable)!

Even though everyone is pretty much all for Google Calendars, I’m still old school—forever flipping through my physical planner. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been on the planner train and, quite frankly, I’m staying loyal. There’s something about being able to write things down, something about having it be tangible in front of me that makes the old school method so appealing. To each their own, right? Say hello to my new 2017 planner from Rifle Paper Co. and some Muji stationery, of course!

Need some hand cream on-the-go? I’m that girl who’s always whipping out a tube and sharing its hydrating love with everyone. I’ve been using Mario Badescu’s Hand Cream and Lip Wax. Next up, are Love Wellness Co.’s Do It All Wipes… because you gotta #TakeCareDownThere. These pH balancing wipes make me feel fresh (down there, duh!) whenever I need them. And how can I not carry around Kleenex tissues? I don’t know about you, but I need a tissue everyday of my life—there’s always seems to be a reason for needing one!

Finally, my everyday makeup essentials! Do I need to say more? These are some of my favorite makeup products and they’re all travel-friendly, especially in this Glossier pink pouch. If I had to choose one makeup product to take with me on-the-go, it’d probably be the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Can’t leave the house without my brows!

What is one thing you can’t leave the house without? Let me know in the comments below!

  • The Detox Drink A Minimalist Smoothie for the Minimalist in You

Day 5 of the Detox is here.

Can I just say I woke up feeling GREAT today? I’m like, high on life, man. Also, my boyfriend gets home in a mere 5 hours so that probably helps the situation. I’m so in love, you guys. So. In. Love. Last night I spent the evening face-masking and putting Olaplex in my hair so that I’m at peak gorgina status today when he comes home. Just like Cher in Clueless I’ll even have something in the oven for his arrival (it’s a roast and it’s going to be bangin’ and it’s on the Detox Diet).

But you’re here for this smoothie recipe, aren’tcha? My ramblings about love don’t belong on the le blog today. Alright, I’ll give you what you came for. And if you’re reading today, as in Friday, January 13th, there is a video of me making the Detox Drink on my Instagram Story….

I’ve grown to love smoothies over the years after being strictly ANTI-smoothie in my adolescence. One of the original Jamba Juices was in Laguna Beach (my hometown) and I never bought into the extremely sweet, kinda (?) tasty, but full of shit smoothies they were peddling. I don’t have a sweet-tooth, plain and simple. Alas, I’m 30 now and I acknowledge that a smoothie is a great way to get some nutrition and good calories into my body quickly and that it does not have to resemble sugar plum fairies in whipped up form. For the purpose of the Detox Diet, a paired-down smoothie is a must as we’re saying goodbye to gluten, dairy, sugar (some fruit is ok), and processed foods. I like thinking of it as a “minimalist smoothie” for the minimalist girl in me. So even though it’s not full of agave, and yogurt, and other things we’re saying “NO” to right now, I swear on my Mother that the Detox Drink is REALLY good, and tastes super clean.

    Let’s get to the recipe…

    The Detox Drink

    3/4 cup cold, filtered water

1/2 cup frozen, organic kale leaves

1/2 cup frozen, organic blend of antioxidant berries and seeds (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, pomegranate seeds, strawberries)

1 tablespoon chia seeds – protein source

1 tablespoon collagen hydrolysate (kosher) – pure protein and good for bouncy skin

    1. In a VitaMix or other high speed blender add all the ingredients together and blend for a minimum of one minute.
    2. Pour into a beautiful glass, because it’s important to truly enjoy yourself while drinking your breakfast. Add a straw if you’re so inclined.
    3. Snap a pic and put it on Instagram and tag me @lobosworth and #DetoxDrink so I can see your masterful work.

  • My Detox Diet Diary An Update de Moi

So how are your detoxes going, ladies?

Mine is well…well, it’s going. I cannot tell you how many cravings I’m having – food, for my boyfriend who is in Asia, for baths, for expensive face creams. I almost ordered a quesadilla on Seamless last night at 930pm when I couldn’t sleep (I’m back home in New York but stuck on west coast time after a 12 day respite out there). I need my lover to come home soon to stop me from going off the rails and totally blowing it. He is almost en-route home from China and he can’t come quickly enough. Hopefully by the weekend that feeling of wanting to go open the refrigerator door and consume all the things in it will pass. In fact, I’ve read that after 3 to 4 days of cutting out gluten and dairy that those manic cravings DO indeed subside.  So, I’m waiting for that to happen. In the meantime, standing there with the door open, the cool air and bright lights shining on my face makes it almost feel like I’m eating delicious things.

In the meantime, I’ve really been enjoying eating a very clean diet.  I’ve been sleeping well once I actually get to sleep, I’ve been

waking up with more energy and motivation,

and my poops haven’t been bad either. I’ve always had a weird digestive system and dare I say it COULD BE finding a rhythm? I think it’s also because I’ve been taking my Love Wellness probiotics and vitamin diligently, and that’s helping tremendously.

Deciding what to eat is quite easy now, where as before it would take me an hour at times to pick through my unlimited dining options. My choices are limited and I’ve stocked the fridge with only nice things and so sipping on a cup of bone broth for breakfast is easy-peasy. Yea, bone broth for bfast is really good. You should try it! My fave is Kettle & Fire and EPIC makes a really nice chicken broth as well.  Both of these brands are guaranteed organic, anti-biotic free, and the cows are grass-fed which should make you feel safe to consume these.

Outside of bone broths, I’ve been drinking a lot of paired-down smoothies in the a.m. and also as snacks throughout the day. I’ve eliminated yogurt (yum), agave (yum), and other fillers that pack on the calories and take aim at the good bacteria in your gut in an effort to recreate some good life parties in my tum-tum. I’ve been adding tons of frozen kale together with anti-oxidant berries (some fruit is okay), ice cubes, raw almonds, and water. Whipped together in the VitaMix, I’ve been very happy with the results. I’m calling it the “Detox Drink” and it’s my go-to for when I get peckish.

On a totally unrelated food-note, I love baths. My boyfriend thinks I’m crazy, as do other non-bath takers, but they are totally healing and meditative for me. Stay with me as I’m getting to the point. I add

    2 cups of epsom salts

along with some baking soda to my evening tub, and it’s a really nice way to end my day/congratulate myself/do something nice for me alone after a long day of work and minimalist eating. Epsom salts ALSO contain a TON of magnesium which can be absorbed a bit through the skin in a bath, and since magnesium is one of the better minerals that soothes nerves and helps sleep come quickly, taking a bath in a ton of it is really quite nice. The water gets silky smooth and it feels like a spa treatment at home that costs almost nothing (me likey). Sometimes I even start my day with a bath too.

That’s my detox diet update for now. I’ve made some FANTASTIC tacos that are diet-friendly that will be coming up on the blog soon. I make the tortillas from scratch using

    cauliflower and eggs.

They’re so delicious I may never go back to reg tortillas again.

    XO, LO

  • It’s Time to Rejuvenate Your Skin

    Tick Tock, Tick Tock

I hope your skincare routine is off to a great start—new year, new you? If the regimen’s not up to par, don’t sweat! I’ve got a few products that will help you rejuvenate your body’s largest organ.

Even with the weather constantly fluctuating (like how is it 53 degrees Fahrenheit in New York today?!), it is still SUPER important to keep your skin hydrated. I, for example, am “masking” as we speak!

Curious what my other winter must-haves are? Keep reading!

Cosmedicine – Eye Specialist Perfected Under-Eye Cream

You can never have “too many” eye-care products. I received this bad boy during the holidays and am quite in love! I was, admittedly, drawn to the dusty pink packaging, but the formula was what won my heart. It really does help to brighten up my super dark under-eye circles. It’s also hydrating all around! After using this product for a week, I noticed that my under-eye area was generally softer and not as puffy. Win!

    Philosophy – Time in a Bottle 100% In-Contol Serum

Where do I start with this amazing breakthrough serum? First, I love its “fresh-pour system” where you get to pour in the “activator” when you’re ready to use the product—so fun! Second, it is ah-ma-zing for ALL skin types—normal, oily, combo, dry, and sensitive. Third, starting off the new year with anti-aging skincare products is the way to go because it’s never too early to do so. Trust me, when it’s too late, it’s really too late. Cast away the dullness, uneven skin tones, and fine lines and wrinkles with this Time in a Bottle serum!

Amore Pacific – Time Response Skin Renewal Sleeping Masque

I tend to gravitate towards products that have a little something extra like this mini brush. I’m pretty sure I’m drawn to these products in particular because I think that a lot of care and thought went into making them! Anywhoo, I’m all about the overnight magic and I always trust Amore Pacific to thoroughly hydrate my skin. Even though I’m usually a devout user of their Moisture Bound line, I’m liking this Skin Renewal Sleeping Masque from their Time Response line. Whenever I use it, I wake up with a glow! This product definitely does hydrate, lift, and tone my skin when I’m sleeping.

Murad – Matte Effect Blotting Perfector

Last but not least, something for the makeup lovers! This compact is literally a life changer. While I have normal skin, I tend to get oily around my t-zone (forehead and nose area). This product is perfect for touching up my face and it really helps it go from greasy-looking to matte. All you have to do is use to applicator puff to lightly dab into the cushion (which smells oh-so-good) and use the puff to pat the oily areas of your face. This can be used alone without makeup, before makeup, or even as a touch-up on top of your makeup. It’s also formulated with ingredients that hydrate! Thank you, Murad!

Don’t forget to treat your skin, everyone!

  • TOXINS, BE GONE Let Our 14 Day Detox Be Your Guide

    ready for a do-over?

Us too. Instead of looking back at 2016 with despair, it’s time to shake off the ghosties of holidays-past and look to tomorrow for hope, health, and happiness. It’s the only way to live, really. Why look behind you when it’s much to do about nothing back there?

Along with fans of Love Wellness, my collection of natural and doctor-recommended feminine wellness products, us gals at TheLoDown are about to embark on a 14 day journey of peace and love (starting Monday, January 9th). Why? Because we know that the only way to reclaim the health of our bodies and minds is through

food, sleep, exercise, meditation, and love.

Deep down you innately know this to be true. No matter how skinny it is, that latte you rely on every morning isn’t doing you any favors.  Why not back away slowly from your vices of choice (ciggies, gluten, ice cream, diet coke, etc.) and join us as we step into a revolutionary 2017?

Ditch gluten, dairy, booze, and caffeine for 14 days (yes, two whole weeks) and experience the tremendous results. In truth, a two-week health turn-around is pretty miraculous. You’ll feel energized, you’ll sleep better, your skin will clear, your mood will brighten, and any yeast or BV infections you’ve been playing host to will subside. The science is out there, people.  By ditching gluten and dairy, you give your body a chance to heal from the inflammation you’ve mercilessly inflicted upon it.

Inflammation manifests itself in many forms:

headaches, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, acne, insomnia, depression, arthritis…

I could go on and on. Trust me, people go Paleo not just for the waist-slimming benefits. They do so because it affects their overall health in miraculous ways, top to bottom.

    So…are you in?

If so, check back often over the next two weeks as I keep my own detox diary and share recipes from my kitchen, along with tips I’ve found help curb cravings and quiet a chattering mind. The goal here is first and foremost to eliminate bad guys from your diet that affect the delicate microbiome, the billions of bacterial colonies that you host and in turn, keep you healthy.  It’s proven that gluten and dairy (for those who have a sensitivity) wipe out these good guys, and as a result, immunity and health go down the shitter. When your microbiome is in peril the inflammation begins, spreads, and makes you feel pretty sub-par.

In general, here’s what my 14 Day Detox Diet entails:

    1. Eliminate gluten. This means wheat, flour, barley, and 99% of processed foods.
    2. Eliminate dairy. Yes, goodbye yogurt. Get good bacteria via probiotics instead.
    3. Eliminate caffeine. It can mess with stress hormones and inhibit good sleep habits.
    4. Eliminate processed foods and drinks in general. Tons of bad guys hiding in there.
    5. Eliminate sugar (natural sugar in limited amounts of fruit is ok).
    6. Meditate for 20 minutes a day to let your body know it’s in a safe, restful state. I love the Headspace app for easy, guided meditation.
    7. Sleep for a minimum of 7 hours. Go to bed earlier if you must. It will be nice, I promise.
    8. Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day. Hydration keeps things moving and the body functioning properly.
    9. Add probiotics and an anti-inflammatory supplement to your diet to soothe the body and recolonize good bacteria.

In short, if you do the detox with us, you’re going to feel and look better, poop a ton, kick yeast infections to the curb, feel excited to exercise, and sleep like a baby. There’s really nothing to lose, except a few pounds and any nasty, lingering feelings from 2016. The Detox begins on Monday, January 9th. Clean out your fridge, restock it with veggies, and look out for Detox-friendly recipes direct from my kitchen to you!

  • Have You Tried These Foundations Yet? A Year in Review

    Build me up, buttercup!

    NARS SHEER GLOW FOUNDATION

My holy grail foundation! Its light to medium coverage is perfect for my daily no-makeup, makeup look. In fact, it covers just enough of the redness I have in certain areas around my face.

URBAN DECAY NAKED SKIN WEIGHTLESS ULTRA DEFINITION LIQUID MAKEUP

This is a great medium coverage foundation that doesn’t feel heavy at all! It also has a natural semi-matte finish!

TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION

Born This Way is what I use when I need a medium to full coverage foundation. I don’t normally wear a “full face,” but when I do, it’s nice to have this guy handy for date nights and big events!

    SULWHASOO PERFECTING CUSHION FOUNDATION

This Sulwhasoo compact is one of my favorite cushion foundations.  Versatile and travel-friendly, the product is super build-able—the more product you use, the more coverage you get!

  • It’s Time to Show Yourself Some Love

Give yourself a pat and then some!

There have been times when I get so wrapped up with work, family, and friends, that I completely forget to check in on myself. In fact, when I’m busy tending to the needs of others, asking myself a “how are you doing?” is the last thing on my mind. Unfortunately, the gesture, however simple and seemingly small, should never be overlooked.

Feeling a little guilty? Shake it off!

It’s time to shower yourself in some much needed attention!

    Loving Talk

There is both weight and value in the conversations we have with ourselves. The thoughts that float through our minds can influence us tremendously. While this may seem slightly overhwelming at times, know that you are in control of your thoughts. The more encouraging conversations you have with yourself, the more positive your outlook on life. Believe it or not, you will soon gain the confidence to share your accomplishments out loud.

    Treat Yourself

Take the time to really treat yourself to something special. There doesn’t have to be a reason for the gift— sometimes knowing you made it through the day is reason enough! Everyone has a different way of relaxing. Maybe it’s that new scarf you’ve been eyeing for the winter, or that face cream you’ve been chewing your sister’s ear off about! Maybe it’s even taking  a Friday afternoon off work to get a message. I know a new candle or fresh flowers brings me such joy! Remember to balance working hard with playing equally hard.

    Check In with Yourself

Self reflection leads to positive changes. Give yourself the necessary time and space to to explore your feelings. You’ll grow as a result. Ask yourself questions: What can you do better? What can you congratulate yourself for achieving thus far? Allow yourself to make adjustments in order to meet the goals youset for yourself. A simple shift in perception could allow you to feel lighter and more loving towards your overall journey.

“To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance” —Oscar Wilde

I hope you are able to make the small changes that gear you towards a life of self love. Accomplishing all that you have thus far is no small feat, so celebrate you!

    Muah xx,

    Emily

  • How to Overcome Weird Vibes (GIFs included)

    Awkward turtles, anyone?

Have you ever been in an awkward situation where it’s so uncomfortable you’d rather just crawl into a hole and fade away? Have I? Definitely! In fact, I’m convinced these unfortunate situations happen more frequently to me than they do the average individual.

    Ugh!

It’s never fun to panic or feel anxious. Your nerves kick in and it’s a never-ending nightmare from there. But hey, overcoming weird vibes is all about managing the various circumstances from which they arise.

    Let me break it down!

You’re obligated to be polite to this person because he or she is whipping up your ridiculously complicated order. I mean, I hope you’re polite to this person either way because you’re generally polite to begin with! 😛

Principally speaking, however, waiting for a stranger to complete your order can be weird—especially if the conversation you exchange sets the tone for your entire day. Feeling a standoffish vibe? Try catching your barista off guard with a simple question. In my experience, a “How is your morning going?” works wonders. But, if the light interaction doesn’t do the trick, don’t take his or her grumpiness personally! Thank your barista for your drink, sip your non-fat mocha Frappucino with light whip, and be on your merry way.

    The Standoff-ish Boss

It’s not always easy to work with someone in close quarters on a daily basis. The thought of small talk might even disgust you! But, believe it or not, confronting the weird-ish relationship head on might be better than avoiding it entirely.

Ease into something like discussing weekend plans or mutual interests. If the conversation isn’t flowing as smoothly as you hoped, try bringing up a work related topic. “Hey, the new printer is amazing!” or “The break room coffee has an extra kick today!” is proof that you’ve tried. There is NEVER anything wrong with trying!

    The Anti-Social Clique

Have you ever been to a party where people separate off into individual groups or where the amalgamation of guests is too eclectic of a mix? Have you ever wanted to U-turn and beeline for the door you just walked in? You have? Well good. I’m now designating you as THE person to shake loose those negative vibes and get the people of the party partying! Take it upon yourself to put on a groovy song (Sexy Back by JT?) and showcase your killer moves.

Mingle with the other guests and make connections! Someone had to do! Whether they thank you or not for your bravery, I will!

Hopefully you can have a laugh and turn these cringe-worthy situations around for the better. Remember to laugh at yourself and enjoy all of the funky situations life throws at you.

    xx

  • Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow 25 Products Worth the Investment

Everyone has a weird attachment to their hair.

You have it, I have it.

While we may all have it to varying degrees (think emotionally distressed female characters chopping off their luscious locks… or Britney circa 2007), hair—the very length, cut, and color of it—is more or less tied to our image and identity.

That being said, what we do to our hair is important.

Fortunately for you, I went ahead and ventured forth as a guinea pig and test rat of sorts. Back from my research and armed with a plethora of knowledge and information, I’m here to share the best of the best!

    Shampoo & Conditioner

    For thirsty hair:
Let Amika‘s Triple Rx Shampoo and Conditioner work their magic into your lovely lady (and lad) locks. My hair always feels so silky smooth after using  these two products!

    For damaged or stressed hair:
Turn to Schwarzkopf BC Hairtherapy‘s Repair Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner! The Repair Rescue line uses Biomimetic Repair Technology to copy nature’s protein-lipid barrier. Your hair will grow stronger all while staying moisturized. Best of all, you can both the shampoo and conditioner at your local Ulta!

    For more volume:
Rahua‘s Voluminous Shampoo and Conditioner are made with 100% organic ingredients that create bouncy volume in your hair without drying the strands out. If you’re into herbal and natural scents, you’ll love this duo!

    For cancelling out brassy tones:
Get rid of the “orange” in your hair with dpHUE‘s Cool Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. After coloring my hair, I noticed that the bleached strands started to fade into a brassy tone within days. The violet in these products helped to cancel out yellowness!

    Dry Shampoo & Hairspray

Schwarzkopf’s OSiS+‘s Refresh Dust and Amika‘s Perk Up Dry Shampoo are great for absorbing those (not-so-pleasant looking) oils in the hair for when you’re too lazy to hop in the shower. 😉

To secure and hold your gorgeous hairstyle, Drybar‘s The Warden Hairspray is perfect for the night out, as it has a long-lasting power and helps to maintain the hair’s natural shine. For more of a matte finish, go for Kenra Professional‘s Platinum HiDef Hairspray 16. Both are flake-free!

    Leave-In & Hair Mask

I don’t normally style my hair, but when I do, I like to include a bit of leave-in for volume and extra silkiness. My faves are It’s A 10‘s Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin and Vine de la Vie‘s Vin D’or Leave-In Styling Elixir!

Just like my face, my hair occasionally needs a mask as well! Hair masks are infused with vitamins, and great for all hair types, especially for those with damaged hair. I like Amika‘s Nourishing Mask and Vine de la Vie‘s oR Noir Mask!

    Treatment & Heat Protectant

Make your hair ends meet by quenching their thirsts with a conditioning treatment. Wen Sixthirteen‘s Ultra Nourishing Treatment Oil and Kenra Professional‘s Revive Treatment target damaged hair strands and offer a boost of hydration!

Ladies and gents, this is v important! Before using heat tools, always remember to use protection… for your hair! This prevents breakage and dryness. Drybar‘s Hot Toddy and Briogeo‘s Rosarco Oil are amazing at protecting hair from heat!

  • Clear Out Your Pores with Activated Charcoal

    Hey, what’s up? Charcoal!

Like fashion and beauty, skincare also has its fair share of trends. I’ve recently noticed a rise in charcoal-infused products and was curious about them right off the bat!

After gathering a good amount of skincare products chock-full of activated charcoal and using them consistently for a couple of weeks, I can honestly say that they have been clearing out the gunk from well within my pores! Best of all, by ridding my skin of all the impurities—the dirt and dead skin cells—the charcoal products have also minimized the size of my pores.

Boscia’s Charcoal MakeUp Melter and First Aid Beauty’s Cleansing Body Polish are the perfect product duo (face and body) for melting and buffing away impurities lodged in the skin. Boscia’s Charcoal MakeUp Melter is a cleansing oil-balm that melts way makeup (including the toughest mascara!) while keeping the skin hydrated. First Aid Beauty’s Cleansing Body Polish works to buff away the dry spots, while also keeping the skin hydrated as well.

These products are so good for the pores! If you like nose strips (ahem, the part where you exam their aftermath), you’ll love both Sephora’s Charcoal Nose Strip and Caolion’s Original Pore Pack. The former helps remove blackheads while the latter is phenomenal for tightening and cooling your pores. Herbivore’s Bamboo Charcoal Soap Bar exfoliates and detoxifies the body, and is perfect for those with blemish-prone skin!
