Bearing from subtropical regions, the pitaya, better known as the dragon fruit, is slowly but surely edging out the acai berry as the latest power fruit. Among many of its health benefits, the fruit is rich in antioxidants and vitamins, helps digestion and boosts energy and immunity levels.
Currently, the funny-looking, magenta fruit is only exported to the United States by one company, Pitaya Plus, but with health benefits for days, it's a no brainer that pitaya will become a major staple in smoothies and breakfast bowls. We can even bet you'll be seeing it all over restaurant menus and your social media feeds in no time.
Below, we've partnered with Pitaya Plus to bring you a recipe that packs a fun twist on a classic summer drink -- the margarita. You didn't expect us to brave the humidity without a cocktail, did you? We're just going to go ahead and say that since we're incorporating this super fruit in the drink, we'll be having two (or three)...
- 3 oz silver tequila
- 2 oz Pitaya Cubes OR 1/3 Smoothie Pack
- Splash of orange juice
- Lime wedge & crushed ice
- In a shaker, combine tequila, pitaya, orange juice and crushed ice.
- Shake well for 10-15 seconds, and pour into margarita glass.
- Garnish with lime wedge.
