Best of Beauty Gift Guide

Know anyone out there absolutely obsessed with YouTube make-up tutorials? Anyone who spends more time in Sephora than their own home? Anyone who can list the best beauty products and brands at the drop off a hat?

Asking these questions, I’ve realized that I’m thinking of a friend who once came to visit with a suitcase half-filled with a light-up mirror for her make-up routine (she’s perfected it to 45 minutes). “Where do I plug this in?” she asked as I half-groggedly pointed her to the outlet. She’s a keeper that one.

For the beauty lover who already knows all there is to know about beauty, holiday shopping can be difficult. This year, take a step back and breathe because we’re here to help. This handy gift guide will help you pick out the best for the beauty connoisseur in your life, and that’s a promise.

For the #ManiMonday obsessee, the best gift comes in the form of a trip to Paintbox in SoHo. The brainchild of Eleanor Langston, the previous beauty editor for Self, Cosmopolitan, and Fitness magazine, Paintbox is shaking up the manicure world by combining high fashion trends with classic manicures. To top it off, Paintbox has its own mani cam that allows guests to snap their freshly manicured hands–now we can all quietly pretend we’re showing off our hands at the Academy Award’s mani cam… or is that just me?

Advent calendars were one of my favorite things as a child. Okay, okay, they still are… Only now, I’ve upgraded from an advent calendar that dispenses chocolate to an advent calendar with beauty treats. These aren’t technically gifts for the Christmas day, but just as as fun, if not more…

Beauty On-the-Go

When we say, #IWokeUpLikeThis, most of the time #WeReallyDidnt. It even takes effort to create a messy look (Messy hair? More like “It took me half an hour to get the perfect mess”). That’s why we LOVE Lancôme’s “Nouvelle Vague” collection. Giving renowned designers like Jacquemus, Yiqing Yin and Alexandra Vauthier the assignment to create a luxe makeup case with their own stylistic spin, these sartorial masterminds created makeup cases that simultaneously double as purses.  Genius or genius?

Lush 1 Lush 2

The first time that I stepped into Lush, I felt my life change. To this day, I empty my wallet every time I walk into the shop. Bath bombs? Yes, please! Shower jellies? Don’t mind if I do! Face masks? I’ll take four, thanks. Surprise your favorite beauty junkie this year with gift packages carrying the best goodies. These are especially amazing for people who love surprises…

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
