Homemade Hummus


[infobox subtitle=”Guilt-Free!” bg=”blue” color=”white” opacity=”off” space=”30″ link=”no link”]Snack Time[/infobox] Welcome to another episode of The Alternative!  Everyone has been asking me for recipes for delicious snack foods and after contemplating different cracker recipes and the like I figured it may be easier to start with something simple.  So what are we making?  Hummus from scratch.  Um, yum!

Homemade hummus may be the easiest thing ever.  All you need is a good blender and a can of beans (plus a few more things, ha).  Point is – it doesn’t get easier than dumping everything into your Vitamix, turning it on, then dipping something scrumptious into it.  The best part about homemade hummus is the ability to customize it.  If you like lemon hummus, garlic hummus, herb hummus, jalapeno hummus, red pepper hummus or whatever, just add it to the mix!

Homemade Hummus

[tabgroup layout=”Ingredients”] [tab title=”Ingredients”]1. 1 can of garbanzo beans

2. Squeeze of lemon

3. 1 T Olive Oil

4. 1 clove garlic

5. 2-3 T Tahini

6. Pinch of salt[/tab] [tab title=”Procedure”]

1. Drain almost all the liquid from your can of garbanzos.

2. Pour all ingredients into a blender and turn on high for about a minute.

3. Season more if necessary.

Serves: 4-6 in one sitting
