June NYC Events

[infobox subtitle=”What To Do This Month” bg=”blue” color=”white” opacity=”on” space=”30″ link=”no link”]Summer in the City[/infobox] We’re three days into June now, and though it feels more like fall (54 degrees in June?!), summer is officially here. Of course, with summer comes great responsibility to have fun without breaking the bank. Luckily, New York City, while crazy expensive, also offers the most amazing opportunities to see stars like Charli XCX for FREE. Got your interest? Read on for the best events the city has to offer this June.

Charli XCX — If you’re a morning person or a lover of fun, listen up. Catch a free performance by Charli XCX this Friday, June 5th from 8-9am at Rockefeller Center. Expect performances of the English singer’s hits including “Boom Clap” and “Sucker.” Arrive around 6am (we weren’t kidding about the morning person bit…) at 45 Rockefeller Plaza for a good spot in the crowd.

Museum Mile Parade — For three hours only, the most prestigious art museums in the city will open up their doors free of admission this coming Tuesday, June 9th from 6-9pm. Throughout 5th Avenue between 82nd Street and 105th Street, enjoy museums including the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan. Or, simply enjoy live bands and street art along the 23-block stretch. Check out the details here.

Broadway Bites — Running through July 26th in Greeley Square Park, Broadway Bites brings together the best small food vendors and artisan products from around the city. Stop by for bites including gelato by Gelati Ti Amo, lobster rolls from Red Hook Lobster pound, mini doughnuts from Doughnuttery and rice balls from Zha Pan Asian. See the full selection of vendors here, and stop by on 33rd St and Broadway,

The Mermaid Festival — If you’ve ever dreamed of being a mermaid (haven’t we all?), this is your chance. Head over to Coney Island on June 20th for a celebration of all things King Neptune and Queen Mermaid. Be ready for a dazzling display of glittery costumes in the brightest of colors. The parade will go down at 1PM on Surf Avenue and W 21st Street. For even more fun, register here to walk in the parade.

Midsummer Celebration — On Friday, June 19, the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival will take place in Battery Park City once more. The Festival, which celebrates the summer solstice, will feature an authentic midsummer pole, traditional Swedish games, and Sweden’s finest foods. Oh, and did we mention… this is your opportunity to fulfill all of your flower crown dreams? If there was ever an occasion to mark your calendars, this is it.

Bryant Park Yoga — Release your stress this month with Athleta and Flavorpill’s yoga classes on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings in Bryant Park. Free yoga with a great view? It certainly doesn’t get any better than that. Check out the full schedule of classes here, and RSVP here (walk-ins are also welcome).

Did we miss anything? Let us know what we should add to the list below!

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
