How To: Adorn Your Walls

Decorating my apartment, in reality, is a never-ending creative process.  I know I shared my Apartment Reveal photos and video a few weeks ago, proclaiming my apartment make-over to be totally complete but as time goes on I’ve made adjustments here and there.  My favorite aspect of home decor that I like to change up?  The art on my walls!  My degree from UCLA is in art history, so every photograph, brush stroke, and shaped metal I see really touches me in powerful ways.
A new (but not new on the scene) artist I’ve been loving lately is Gray Malin.  I began following him on Instagram a few months ago after I recognized his colorful, birds-eye view photographs of the Amalfi Coast in my trending feed.  If you don’t already follow him you should – his account really is delightful.  The best part about his work is that the pieces are definitely collector-worthy but still accessible, with prints available on everything from iPhone cases to stationary.

The art I buy doesn’t even always hang on the wall.  I love to put framed photographs all over my apartment – lining the walls like the print above from his Poolside Collection, setting them on top of dressers, or layering them on a stack of tall books.

The people, places, and things Gray photographs really lighten not only my mood but my home.  After my home was decorated I decided that my bedroom still needed some additional tweaks so I splurged on this gorgeous print featuring rows and rows of white umbrellas and appropriately called White Umbrellas.  This particular piece is from the Dolce Vita Collection featuring photos of the glamorous Italian Riviera lifestyle.

And here’s ME enjoying the new vibes in my bedroom!  If you’re new to collecting art, I’d suggest finding 2 to 3 artists you’re really inspired by and start by purchasing small pieces that can be featured in many different ways around the home.  I even have small pieces of art sitting in the windowsill in my bathroom – any room can be brightened with a tiny touch of colorful fun!

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
