[title subtitle=””]DIY Coffee Body Scrub[/title] My first day of high school, roughly eight and a half years ago today, was many things—new classes, new goals, new friends, new teachers, and new relationships. But, of all the new things that made my first day so terrifyingly special, it was my newfound love for coffee that made an even bigger impression on my heart, my bloodstream, and my mind.

Yup, Court, the prepubescent fresh-out-of-middle me, thought it a very adult idea to buy a pick-me-up from Dunkin’ Donuts. I mean, how else was I meant to get through the day? And, as if it were fate—as if coffee and I were truly meant to be—I’ve been hooked ever since.

Without coffee, my day is ruined. My crankiness runs amuck until I get my cup of joe. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried all other forms of “liquid life,” tea and other subsequent whatnots, but none come close to making my heart beat as fast or as strong as that tasse du café. Forget cotton, for me coffee is the touch, the feel, and the fabric of my life. It is the unequivocal je ne sais pas that soothes my soul.

My love for coffee, quite frankly, extends beyond pure consumption. Believe it or not, I like to give a sip or two to my skin because yes, I’m that weirdo that uses coffee grinds to exfoliate. Before you shake your head in disapproval, I’m going to tell you now that doing so has done wonders for my cellulite. Don’t believe me? Grab some coffee grinds, brown sugar, and coconut oil, and give this homemade scrub a try!

  • 1/2 cup coffee grounds
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (or olive oil)

I especially enjoy using coffee in my body scrubs because they are packed with caffeine and antioxidants that help eliminate the appearance of cellulite. The coffee grounds and brown sugar in this recipe work well together to exfoliate the skin. They’re rough but at the same time gentle enough to gingerly loosen dead skin cells. The coconut oil, on the other hand, is rich in vitamins. It acts as the main source for much needed moisturization after exfoliation. I used all organic ingredients, but feel free to use whatever you’d like. For example, you can run to your local Starbucks and grab a handful (or two) packets of the Sugar in the Raw sugar packets!

Combine all the ingredients together and mix well. Add more coconut oil if you a creamier texture for your scrub. Oh, and see that mess that I made? Learn from my mistake and mix your ingredients in a bigger bowl.

Store the content in air-tight jars like so. They also make for the perfect gifts for loved ones! No worries if you accidentally eat some by accident. Everything here is safe and au naturel.

Ta-da! Look at all this caffeinated goodness! I recommend using this scrub once a week for visible moisturizing results. And, most importantly, make sure you have a drainer in your shower to avoid any clogged drains.
