Reasons You Should Wear Metallic Clothing

When I think metallic clothing, I think of my alien Halloween costume from sophomore of college—a silver leotard. In fact, it was just the other day that my mom pulled it from the bottom of my drawers in hopes that I’d finally get over its sentimental value and give it away. Because metal is one of fashion’s latest trends, however, I flat out refused.

Because metal is one of fashion’s latest trends, however, I flat out refused.

Okay, so maybe I won’t be wearing that leotard anytime soon, but given the perfect occasion to whip it out, it’s nice to know I’ve got the option to, right?

It’s common knowledge that metallic clothing and accessories, when worn incorrectly, come across as both tacky and trashy. If you do it right though, the glitz and glam can go a long way. Be warned: this is not your golden ticket to go out and purchase the shiniest items on the rack. It is, instead, a reminder that a rustic metallic piece can do an equally good job. Not sure whether or not you can rock a metallic outfit? Start by trying out some metallic nail polish. Or, if you’re a little more daring, spice up an outfit with a cool metallic accessory. I recently bought my best friend a Rebecca Minkoff metallic wallet—purple and silver with hints of green—for her birthday. It’s honestly the best finish for any look that lacks a little life.

And, just in case you needed a push, I recommend playing some dress up with all the shiny shimmery tops and bottoms in your closet. Don’t be shy to experiment!

Anyway, here are some of my favorite metallic looks!

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
