Are the Kylie Jenner and Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks Worth Their Hype?
Today, I’m bringing out the big guns: liquid lipsticks.
I know, I know, they’ve been on the market for quite some time now and most well-known brands are carrying them. Still, if you’ve ever wondered why they’re so popular or why every YouTube beauty guru seems to gush about one or two in her monthly favorites video, I’m here satisfy your curiosity and put your doubts, if any, to rest.
Liquid lipsticks are long-lasting and super pigmented. You apply the formula as you would regular lip gloss. The color usually glides right on and dries rather quickly into a matte finish. Unlike tube lipsticks, however, liquid lipsticks rarely require touchups or reapplications. Oh, and a little goes a long way!
As much as I can go on and on about the general specifics of liquid lipsticks, I thought I’d do a little something different and test out the incredibly hard-to-get Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks.
Like, ya gurl has got to know, is it all worth the hype?
These brands, if you’ve been living under a rock, tend to sell out in minutes of their launch or restocking. You really have to drop everything you’re doing to purchase them at exactly the right time. Otherwise, you’re SOOL. Kidding! If your fingers aren’t nimble enough to hit “purchase” on your first go, there’s always a second, third, fourth–if not fifth–time to try your luck.
Before we dive into the nitty gritty though, I have two important tips to share:
- Remember to always, always, always, ALWAYS exfoliate before applying your liquid lipstick.
- Line your lips with a lip liner (in a color that matches your liquid lipstick shade) before applying the liquid lipstick. It’ll make your life so much easier.
The Kylie Lip Kit comes with a sweet-scented matte liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner. You can’t go wrong with this amazing duo. The lip liner helps you color inside the lines and kicks all potential mistakes to the curb.
Like advertised, Kylie’s liquid lipstick stays on forever, but can be a bit drying after a couple hours. I recommend patting on just a tad bit of lip balm right when the formula starts to feel tight.
Unlike when Kylie first launched her line, you can now purchase her matte liquid lipsticks and lip liners separately. She also has “lippies” in both gloss and metal finishes. I’d definitely purchase more lip liners in the future (especially with her wide range of nudes)!
[title subtitle=”Velour Liquid Lipstick”]Jeffree Star Cosmetics[/title]
Jeffree Star is your go-to brand if you like color. His Velour Liquid Lipsticks come in white, black, pastels, and even yellow! I especially love how all his products have unique names and stories attached to their descriptions.
When applying the liquid lipstick, you can instantly feel how smooth the formula is. Even though it dries matte, the lipstick still keeps your lips moisturized.
Jeffree advises “no making out, [but] kisses are okay” when using his liquid lipsticks. Honestly, they’re the most affordable brand that does the trick.
[title subtitle=”what i really think”]The Verdict[/title]
Both brands have their similarities and differences, but if I had to choose between one or the other, I’d go with the Kylie lip liner for precision and the Jeffree Star liquid lipstick for his formula.
TIP: To get a hold of these rare gems, I suggest following the brands and their founders on social media. Both Kylie and Jeffree reveal launch and restock dates of varying products on their personal Instagram, brand Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter accounts.
Mark your calendars, set your alarms, and be quick!
What do you think? Would you try any of these out, and if so, which one would you prefer?
