Sleeping on Silk Makes a Difference!

Who would have thought that pillowcases make a difference when it comes to skin and hair care? When I tried the Slip silk pillowcase, I knew there was no turning back because these babies actually help to prevent premature wrinkling and bed head.

According to Dr. Dennis Gross, founder of Dennis Gross Skincare, “Not getting enough beauty sleep is one of the greatest stresses to the skin, resulting in deepening lines and wrinkles. Sleeping on our backs is actually the best position to help preserve a youthful-looking complexion, however if you cannot sleep on your back, covering your pillow with a silk pillowcase which will minimize friction. The skin will slide more easily over silk than cotton.”

After some research, I learned that silk fibers are less absorbent than cotton ones. Silk pillowcases, in turn, help my expensive face cream and hair products stay put where they belong. As someone who always manages to wake up with tangled hair, I was surprised by how knot-free my strands were after sleeping on Slip.

The brand has a range of neutral pillowcase covers to choose from, and a matching “Sleepmask” to go with them (if that’s your thing). I chose white because #whywhiteworks. Check out the hashtag on Instagram and you’ll understand my obsession!

Where can you find these goodies? They’re available at a handful of places like Sephora, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie. I genuinely give them two thumbs up!

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
