How To Stay Sane, I Mean Organized, With A Hectic Lifestyle!

Hello my busy bees! Trying to stay organized with a hectic schedule can be quite overwhelming especially when you’re trying to pencil in a social life somewhere in there as well!

For some people, organization comes naturally but those of us who aren’t exactly type A tend to struggle a bit with it. The good news is,it’s never too late to learn some new habits to help you stay on top of your game!

I’ve found that the below tips have helped me to keep my head on straight when things get crazy…also, a nice wet martini after a long day helps too. Self-Love people!!

Plan Ahead

Being prepared by planning ahead will save you SO much time! This includes everything from picking out your outfit for the next day the night before, meal prepping and placing any important items you may need for the following day next to your door. There’s no way to plan for unexpected events throughout your day but being prepared for the things you can control will allow you to have fewer things to worry about throughout your day!

To Do Lists

Writing down a To Do list may seem like it’s just one more thing you have to do but they’re actually very helpful if you’re more of a visual person like myself! Have a list for all aspects of your life such as work tasks, groceries, miscellaneous errands…you can pretty much have a list for anything! With so much going on, it’s impossible to remember every single thing you have to get done, why not just have it all written down and scratch them out as you complete them?!Honestly, there’s nothing more satisfying than checking off that last item on your list knowing you don’t have to worry about anything else…for the moment! I personally love to carry around a planner with me where I can quickly jot down anything I may have remembered to do/add into my calendar but using the Notes app & Google Calendar on your phone is also super convenient!

Create Business Hours & Actually Stick To Them!

This is a MAJOR key in staying organized especially if you’re self-employed/freelance! The beauty of working for yourself is that you’re able to make your own schedule..this however is also its downside. When you have no set schedule it’s easy to get lazy and procrastinate which then leads you to stress out over not getting anything done but if you set concrete hours for yourself, it’ll help to hold you accountable and get your shit done!

Don’t Be Afraid Of Saying No

This has always been a problem for me. I tend to say yes to everything, overcommitting myself and later regretting my decision because I’m just too burnt out or literally have no time. This is where having a calendar also comes in handy, if you see that your days are filled up then the decision is already made for you- no ifs, ands or buts about it! If you’re swamped at work, don’t take on another task until you’ve finished ones you’ve already started. Don’t say yes to going out for drinks when you’re exhausted, don’t overwork yourself, it is okay to say no!

Make Sure Everything Has A Dedicated Space

How many times have you ran late to work because you couldn’t find your keys or wallet?! GUILTY. Having a home for everything is a habit I’m still working on but it really is more time efficient when you already know where things are and aren’t frantically running around for an unnecessary amount of time. Take a day to declutter your home and organize all of your belongings..once this becomes routine your life will be made so much easier!

Avoid All Other Technology While Working

Yes, this means looking away from your Instagram feed! I have to be honest, even while writing this post I got distracted by my phone for easily 15 minutes which goes to show you, any other type of technology around you, including the TV, is a distraction. If you want to get something done you have to give it your full attention in order to complete it in a timely manner. The social media world can wait!

Get Up A Little Earlier

As precious as those extra few minutes of sleep are in the morning, waking up a little earlier than your normal time can help you get a head start on your day! If you use the extra 10-15 minutes wisely you can make yourself a filling, healthy breakfast, go over any important notes for your meetings and even get a little meditation in to get your mind right for the day ahead. By completing even the simplest of tasks before your day even begins, you’ll already feel accomplished and it’ll help you to keep that momentum going!

Take Care Of Yourself

With all of the stress that comes from leading a hectic lifestyle, we often forget to check in with ourselves. As busy as you may get, don’t forget to pencil in some time for yourself! Exercise daily even if it’s just for 20 minutes-go for a walk after a long day or even during your lunch break! Make sure you’re getting enough sleep too, your mind & body needs rest so be sure to listen to it and give it what it needs.

Keep in mind that no matter how prepared and organized you are, life is bound to throw some curve balls at you- this is when it’s important to just take a deep breath and tackle the obstacle ahead. You got this babes!

Why I Fast on Mondays

Monday: oh, the duality of it. I love Monday and I also hate it with a deep passion. I hate that it will take a full 5 days for the weekend/nachos to arrive. I hate that I have to answer my emails. I hate that my alarm goes off and wakes me from my Sunday slumber. Yet, once I’m conscious I remember that I love waking up early on a summer Monday, hitting the streets before 8am when the city is still sleepy and heading out for a slow sweat at SLT. I love hitting the re-set button and having another chance to do and be. I also love fasting on Mondays, my chosen day of the week to detox until dinnertime (if you’re forced to begin your week, you may as well dive in head first).
