You ever just feel a little..off..down there? Whether you start noticing an unusual odor or maybe a little more discharge than usual, knowing your vagina isn’t quite exactly living its best life can be uncomfortable AF, trust me..I know! I’ve personally dealt with infections in the past, which by the way, are totally normal to get! Usually your vag is pretty good at cleaning and protecting itself but there are tons of factors that can throw your pH off -stress, antibiotics and the pill to name a few.
Now I’m sure you all know that visiting your gyno regularly, practicing safe sex and having good hygiene can help keep your pH in check BUT watching what you eat can play a huge role in keeping your pussy healthy and happy!
I’ve got some good news for you babes, the foods you should be putting into your body to help get and keep your vaginal health where it should be are most likely already in your kitchen!
The most common food to help ward off yeast infections is yogurt! Yogurt contains probiotics a.k.a. the good bacteria your gut needs in order to regulate your vaginal pH. If you’re not a fan of natural yogurt then I suggest taking a probiotic supplement! The Good Girl Probiotic from Love Wellness is formulated with 8 strains of lactobacilli that are key in maintaing your vaginal flora!
Seeds & Nuts
Feeling a little dry down there? That may be a sign you could use more vitamin E, Zinc and Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet! Make yourself a home made trail mix including almonds, flaxseeds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds to help prevent itching and dryness down under!
Cranberries are one of the most recommended foods for relieving urinary tract infections due to the fact that they contain strong acidic compounds that help to acidify the urine and balance the pH of the vaginal area. I’m not a huge fan of the taste of cranberry juice (unless mixed with vodka 😉 ) so I like to mix fresh cranberries in with my yogurt in the mornings to really double up and keep my flower fresh! Keep in mind that if you are going to go for the cranberry juice, make sure you grab a no sugar added brand to make sure you really get all the benefits!
Green tea helps with more than just brain function and boosting your energy. It contains a natural antioxidant, catechin, that helps with fighting UTI’s! If you’re experiencing symptoms of an infection then replace your morning cup of coffee with green tea and let it do its magic!
Don’t plan on kissing anyone when incorporating garlic into your diet because it’s actually best eaten raw! Eating raw garlic contains anti fungal and antimicrobial properties which help to kill yeast while also soothing the symptoms of infection such as itchiness! You can eat it raw OR it’s said that if peeled you can also use as a suppository at night. Sticking food up there is actually kind of weird to me so take my pro tip and use boric acid suppositories from Love Wellness called The Killer, they can literally work overnight if you spot an issue early!
Fresh Fruits & Veggies
Mama didn’t say eat your fruits and veggies for nothin’! You can literally get all the essential vitamins & minerals your body needs from eating your greens and colorful fruits! To help with vaginal dryness and blood circulation then make sure to eat leafy greens such as spinach, kale and collard greens! Avocados are also amazing for your vaginal health since they contain Vitamin B6 and potassium which supports healthy vaginal walls! Eating foods high in vitamin C also help to boost your immune system and fight annoying infections-these can include bell peppers, strawberries and citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits!
Your kitty gets thirsty too! Drinking a sufficient amount of water can aid in multiple vaginal functions such as helping to diminish foul odors, increase lubrication and maintain pH balance of vaginal tissues. Get your 8, 8 oz glasses of water in daily ladies!
Another pro tip of mine guys, don’t suffocate her! I love wearing leggings just as much as the next girl but your vagina isn’t really a fan so try not to hang out in them for too long! I also recommend sleeping commando or at least wearing cotton undies, just make sure to let her breathe!
