New Year, Same Night Time Beauty Routine!

Hello my lovelies!! I hope all of your holidays were amazing and filled with lots of love, laughter & yummy recipes!

Now I’m sure most of you have geared up and gotten your New Year’s Resolutions in order but are you keeping up and being consistent with your previous ones?! I feel like consistency is essential to achieving any and everything you want out of life! Whether it’s something as simple as sticking to a skin care routine to doing some type of physical activity for at least 20 minutes a day, forming good habits will help you out in all aspects of your life!

With that being said, I’d like to share with you beauties what my nighttime beauty routine consists of!

Step 1: Remove Makeup

Literally as soon as I walk in the door I head straight to the bathroom to take off my makeup because I know if I don’t do it right away I run the risk of getting lazy and forgetting- falling asleep with makeup on is a huge NO NO. I typically will use makeup wipes for wiping my day away since they’re easy to use and mess free!

Step 2: Bath Time

While I’m removing my makeup I’ll have my bath running that way I can hop into my warm bath as soon as possible. Taking a long hot bath to detox and de-stress is what I look forward to most at the end of a long day! This is my time to meditate and reflect and wash away any negative energy I may have absorbed during a hectic day in the city (I really wish washing away problems could work in real life but hey it’s more so the mental aspect of it that I appreciate!!) Turning off the lights, lighting some candles, keeping my phone far away from me,soaking in some Epsom Salt and using Love Wellness’ ph balancing cleanser are how I enjoy showing myself self love and chillin’ the F out!

Step 3: Skin Care

Once I’m all pruney and out of the bath, I’ll throw on a cozy robe and start showing my skin some love! After cleansing my face, I apply 3 different products. First up is SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5 which is amazing for enhancing skin tone, texture and resiliency! Then I’ll dabble on another one of my fav. products from SkinMedica, the Lytera 2.0 Serum to help brighten up my complexion and finally I’ll finish up with Dermalogica Active Moist which contains some of my favorite ingredients such as lemon, lavender and cucumber which all help to refine my skin while providing deep hydration throughout the night!

Step 4: Technology Off

Now that my skin is prepped and ready to stay hydrated throughout the night, I’ll take a quick moment to check my phone for any important emails or texts I may have missed but after that I stay away from all technology, yes including Netflix, an hour before going to bed. Instead of binging my new favorite show or getting wrapped up on Instagram, I’ll read a book until my eyes and brain finally want to shut off. I’ve found this helps tremendously with being able to fall asleep faster and better and getting my 8 hours of beauty sleep is SUPER important for me and for those around me the next morning! HAHA

I’d love to hear what is involved in y’alls PM beauty routines as well so please feel free to share!

Holiday Travel Tips To Help Keep Your Mind, Body & Soul In Check

It’s that crazy time of year again when we stress out over schedules, airfares, luggage, gifts, diet and exercise! AHH it’s enough to drive you crazy but it doesn’t have to! It’s mind over matter baby and I’ve got some tips to help you have one less thing to stress out about during the holiday season.

Traveling. The word alone gives me anxiety but I’ve finally figured out ways to help ease the process for me and make it an enjoyable experience.

First things first, just breathe. Before heading out on your long or short journey home or wherever you destination may be, take a few moments to meditate and relax. Taking a few deep breaths can really help to calm your mind and help you think clearly- trust me this is useful when making sure you don’t leave anything behind.

Speaking of leaving things behind, make a check list! Write down a list of everything you’ll be needing for your trip and start checking them off once you have it packed or in your handbag ready to go! This is honestly one of the best old school ways to ensure you don’t forget your passport or favorite moisturizer!

Leave early. Whether you’re traveling by car or plane, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going just in case anything unexpected happens along the way(i.e. traffic, THE WORST!!) I rather be super early and relaxed than rushing and stressed!

Pack healthy snacks!! We all know the airport literally has no healthy food options or if they happen to have a packet of raw almonds available it costs an arm and a leg so to prevent from reaching for the fast food, pack a few granola bars and fruits to snack on! I know it can be a bit tricky with what you can and can’t take with you through TSA so I also suggest making sure you eat right before heading to the airport. Oatmeal, lean protein and TONS of water are all great examples of what you should eat pre-flight while sugar, alcohol and salty snacks are all things you should avoid-save the wine for when you arrive and can unwind!

Freshen Up. Am I the only one that feels gross during a travel day?! It doesn’t matter if I’m on a 5 hour flight or just a 2 hour car ride once I get in I have to immediately shower but sometimes life happens and we don’t always get that luxury so we must prepare! I personally love carrying around cleansing wipes with me, they’re easy to pack and no fuss at all! The do it all wipes from Love Wellness are my go-to, I just toss them in my bag and I’m able to freshen up and give myself a cleansing pick-me-up on the go!

Dress comfortably.  Say YASSSS to leggings and sneakers! Now is your time to rock your dope athleisure look and be cozy AF while you travel. Comfort is key to having a relax, successful travel day, plus if you’re wearing your running shoes you’ll be more inclined to actually get a workout in wherever you go!

I’d love to hear what your essential travel tips are as well but hopefully some of these will not only be useful for your upcoming holiday travels but for all of your future adventures as well!!

Stay Cozy & Learn How To Make Your Own Matcha At Home

Hello my soon to be snow bunnies! (literally supposed to start snowing in NY this week and I’m not ready to give up the fall yet!)

If I’m being completely honest I’m not a huge fan of the cold weather but I do love the idea of cozying up on the couch with a huge blanket, some fuzzy socks, the fireplace going and a warm beverage! Typically a hot chocolate would go perfect in that equation but I feel like a matcha would be a great substitute for a relaxing snow day vibe.

There is no shortage of cute places to go to in the city to get my matcha fix (Cha Cha Matcha is one of my favs!) but the thought of putting on a bunch of layers just to satisfy my craving is exhausting so I figure I better learn to do it myself and who better to teach me than “The Golden Girl of Wellness” herself, Candice Kumai!

Instead of going the matcha latte route which is usually more sugary, I had Candice come over to show me how to make traditional matcha and the best part is it only took 30 seconds and it’s more beneficial because you’re getting the most vitamin C and antioxidants out of it!

I love it so matcha (sorry couldn’t resist) and you should to! Not only is it yummy but there are tons of health benefits such as: boosts metabolism, burns calories, packed with antioxidants, calms the mind, relaxes the body, enhances mood and it helps with concentration!

Follow the quick and easy recipe by the radiant Candice Kumai and get ready to snuggle up and chillax!

  • Measure 1-2 teaspoons Japanese matcha powder.
  • Using a chasen whisk (bamboo whisk), sift your powder, gently.
  • Add hot water that’s been slightly cooled, not boiling, about 185 degrees F.
  • Whisk like crazy, until tiny, cute bubbles form.
  • Enjoy + chill the f out

My Morning Vitamin Routine

Want in on my vitamin routine? Today let’s get into which vitamins I take in the morning and why. The vitamins I take are always issue-specific and driven by a few natural ingredients that are proven to provide good health benefits.

I also consider some items that aren’t in vitamin form a part of my routine, like:

DETOX with Sakara’s Detox Water Concentrates

This is a really cool product, and I really like the founders of Sakara! Essentially the Detox Water Concentrate is chlorophyll combined with magnesium, and up to 72 trace minerals. The science behind this product is that the ingredients bind to toxins, and then you pee them out.

FEEL GOOD with #Mood Pills by Love Wellness

The star ingredients in #Mood Pills? Organic and natural ones that lift my hormonal mood. Some of the majors include: Organic St. John’s Wort: a flowering plant that studies show may help treat mild depression, Organic Ginkgo Biloba: Also known as the maidenhair tree, ginko biloba has been used for thousands of years in eastern medicine to address depression, anxiety, and energy, and Organic Chasteberry: Studies show that this fruit, native to the Mediterranean, can help ease symptoms of PMS and PMDD.

GLOW UP with Good to Glow by Love Wellness

I’m a true believer that the glow comes from within! What you put in your body directly affects how much you weigh – why wouldn’t it also make a huge impression on the quality of your skin?

Good to Glow packs tons of skin-friendly ingredients into a capsule: bounce-boosters like collagen, anti-bacterial/oxidant/aging organic ashwaghanda, and Vitamins C + E.

Tummy Tame with Good Girl Probiotics by Love Wellness

Not only do probiotics keep your gut happy, they also keep tons of different organs happy too. Why? Because the gut is the home of the immune system and is connected to things like your brain/mental health, your skin, and your feminine health too.

Good Girl Probiotics are formulated with 12 strains of good bacteria that occur naturally in the vaginal microbiome, and they because they up the levels of good bacteria in your belly, your female organs benefit as well.

Now, I know I’m biased for all things Love Wellness because I’m the founder, but if you’re looking for new vitamins, definitely check ours out. Why? We formulate them to be as natural and as organic as possible, and we formulate based on science, not trends.

I’m always open to new products, so I’d love to hear what you take in the morning to get your day started! Let me know in the comments!

The Best Natural Beauty Products You Need Right Now

I’ve made a strong effort to move towards natural and all-natural beauty and wellness products in my home – just in the same way as I’ve moved towards sourcing food for myself that is local, organic, and as whole as possible. It makes a lot of sense that we want the things we put ON our bodies to be as close to pure as the good foods that we’re eating in 2017, so whenever someone tells me about some new miracle product I always want to know if it’s natural.
In terms of marketing hype, there are differences between “natural” and “all-natural” or “100%” natural products. Just to be clear, natural products still have some chemical or synthesized ingredients, but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad. You just need to read the labels and do a bit of research if a term like Dibutyl phthalate pops up (FYI – it’s on the DIRTY DOZEN Beauty List of chemicals to avoid).

On the other hand, if a product is marketed as all-natural or 100% natural, by law it should be. There are still some companies that fly under the regulatory radar and promote their items as such when they are not, so again, read the label. A lot of natural ingredients do have weird-ass names so just do your research.

Now – lets dive into my current list of the natural and all-natural products you need RIGHT NOW PEOPLE. The 100% natural products are in BOLD. Watch my video below to discover their amazing uses and gentle formulas!

  1. Noble Formula 2% Zinc Argan Oil Bar Soap
  2. Love Wellness pH Balancing Cleanser (a gentle external cleanser for your vag)
  3. LilyAna Natural Retinol Cream
  4. BioSchwartz Organic Coconut Oil Supplements
  5. Captain Blankenship Mermaid Hair Oil

What To Do When You Have a Problem “Down There”

Okay, TMI time: I have had a yeast infection before.

But is it really TMI?

Haven’t most women experienced the discomfort once in their lives?

I have one friend who insists she has never had anything “weird” happen down there —God Bless Her—but if you’re in the same category I’m in (UTIs, BV, and other mysterious ailments), you’re probably frustrated by the endless cycle of anti-biotic and antifungal treatments prescribed by your doctor.

In fact, I often find that these “cures” exacerbate my problems. Why did I buy that damn Monistat in the first place? While marked “safe for women,” they’re filled with chemicals like propelyne glycol (a culprit on the Dirty Dozen list). Makes you wonder who gave these products the green light, doesn’t it? Bottom line: there’s a lot to be desired when it comes to feminine wellness.

I’ve suffered long enough.

A doctor once told me I “just have bad plumbing” and I should “learn to deal with the hand I’m dealt.”

I’m sorry, but it’s 2016 and women’s health, including my own, cannot and should not be so cut and dry.

Inspired by my personal frustrations with what’s readily available, not to mention the it-is-what-it-is attitude amongst some old-school medical practitioners, I’ve created Love Wellness, a new line of natural, doctor-recommended products that target common issues most women face down there.

The collection includes products that work on their own and together to relieve treatment-resistant, tricky infections. They also help to maintain health from the inside out. Best if all, women can finally clean their bodies safely with pH balanced wipes and cleansers.

Your 15%-off code is at the bottom of this post so keep on reading!

The Killer (boric acid suppositories) and Good Girl Probiotics

Developed based on the recommendations of medical specialists and nutritionists that have helped me conquer my “bad plumbing” over the years, Love Wellness features a line of solutions that are natural. Our Killer, for example, features boric acid, a mineral found in seawater that is used to treat yeast infections when go-to traditional methods fail. Our favorite OB/GYN, Dr. Lindsay Appel, notes that

“Boric acid suppositories are an excellent alternative for women who have failed traditional treatment methods for bacterial and yeast infection or suffer from recurrent infection.  One of the difficulties I have had in prescribing boric acid is that it often needs to be either purchased at a compounding pharmacy or made into a capsule by the patient herself which can be burdensome, especially because many women would like to be discreet when performing vaginal hygiene.”

Besides compounding boric acid, we’ve also formulated doctor-recommended probiotics made with the same bacteria that naturally occur in the vagina to help maintain good gut health.

Fun fact: did you know that the gut is the home of the our immune system and has a huge influence on what’s happening in the vagina?

That said, if the bacteria is compromised, whether in the gut or the vagina, you can expect things to be thrown off.

Do It All Wipes and pH Balancing Cleanser

Our pH balanced products, on the other hand, are great ways to help maintain cleanliness. Made with soothing coconut oil, our Do It All Wipes  are perfect for cleansing on the go and our all-natural pH Balancing Cleanser is great for both quick and long showers.

Before you go wild on me here, note that WE KNOW the vagina is self-cleaning.

Internally it takes care of itself. Nothing in our line aims to change that. The cleansing products we’ve created are for external use only. They take care of the skin and surrounding area a woman may wish to wash.

So, Lo, how safe is it to use externally?

According to Dr. Appel,

“When used externally, it is safe to use pH balanced cleansers and wipes.  When used internally, these cleansers can actually change the pH and decrease the ‘good’ natural bacteria in the vagina and increase infection risk.  Basically, when used internally, these products don’t allow the vagina to be self-cleaning.”

In short, it’s okay to use a little more than warm water externally when the product is natural and pH-balanced.

Perfect Condition Vitamin, Good Girl Probiotics, and Blue Tea

All in all, my overall goal with Love Wellness is to provide women with natural alternatives to cure what ails them.  There’s a movement among women, especially in online communities (one that I hope jumps beyond the internet), to turn to natural products and ingredients to help maintain longterm health and treat chronic infections.  We’re taking that mindset to the masses with our collection and we believe that what we’re offering provides a 360 approach to do so.

We’ve already received countless notes from new customers who are having great results.  One of my favorites is below, from Sarah W, a Clinical Psychologist:

“I just wanted to take a moment to express how incredible your products have been for me. I’m 31 and have been prone to chronic infections for the greater part of my adult life. I’m very sensitive to most medications, and I’ve often felt like my doctors have been quick to prescribe strong steroid medications that only exacerbate the issues I’ve had. I purchased your boric acid, probiotics, cleansing wipes, and vitamins, and in less than a week my body is feeling better than it has in years. I’m a psychologist and appreciate the importance of a holistic approach to health, and wanted to sincerely thank you for creating a really incredible line of products for women like me. I wish you the best of luck with your business and will encourage all of my friends to try your products!”

Sarah, we’re so excited to have you on board and we appreciate your support in spreading our message of good, natural health for all women!
